Our feedback has been overwhelmingly positive for the first two issues.
In response to your requests, we have added the Eclectic Lapidary Trading Post! This free bulletin-board is for non-commercial postings by Eclectic Lapidary subscribers. Happy swapping!
Some of our readers, though, had serious questions. Let's take a look at a few broad themes:
Q: Why start with basics?
A: Easy one! To evolve a common language and experience. It won't take long for our newbies to catch up on the basic terminology and procedures (especially with the help of the Eclectic Lexicon, now available by clicking the "Glossary" icon on the
left"), and over the next few months, in concert with our authors, we will develop additional resources for future subscribers. At the same time, we want to involve our more experienced readers and draw them into contributing and sharing their
expertise.
Q: Will The Eclectic Lapidary follow the route of a major hard copy publication which has wandered from lapidary topics into beading as a mainstay?
A: In short, no. While beading has a wide following, there are electronic and hard copy publications and forums dedicated to that pursuit. The Eclectic Lapidary has no plans to become another.
Q: Why the articles on non-lapidary subjects?
A: Because we are eclectic. We're going to range far and wide, but always hold firm to a center of lapidary, jewelry and mineral topics.
Now, turn-about is fair play. I have a few questions for you.
On the Fort Irwin Plan to "Acquire" 517 Square Miles of Mostly "Public" Land
- Where are all the folks who get so vociferous on newsgroups over sites closed to collecting?
- What do they plan to do about the Fort Irwin National Training Center land acquisition proposal?
- When do they plan to start helping those of us less experienced in understanding the complicated issues that are involved through thoughtful comment on the Ft. Irwin board?
- Why have no public officials followed up on The Eclectic Lapidary offer to print a position statement or any statement for that matter, in full, on the Eclectic? [see the Fort Irwin Bulletin Board by clicking on the icon on the left]

LOSS ALERT!
From: Mark Liccini
Subject: Help!Missing Rough Gemstones
On Saturday 1-25 a Federal Express representative Network Courier placed a Federal Express "large" box containing just under 1 kilo of rough treated Beryl on a Continental Airlines direct flight to Miami Fla. The box never arrived in Miami.
This rough was hammered flawless 2gm (10ct) to 25gm (125ct)in size. All an unusual, newly developed color; a dark red/orange with brown overtones similiar to the color of Honey or top Madeira Citrine.
A reward of $1,000, no questions asked is offered for information leading to return of this lot of rough stones.
